NEW ORLEANS
+ May 25, 2019
Vegetarian, non-drinker – one would wonder what I was doing in New Orleans?! Maybe I did not have the “true tourist experience” but I found the right company of 12 crazy grad school friends, and it was just enough madness I could handle, not to mention one of the best reunions I could ask for. Besides all those fun moments, this visit truly deserves my reflection on this log for many reasons. New Orleans, a city in a class of its own, has a dynamic blend of cultural influences which is evident in its eclectic architecture. One can easily get lost throughout the Quarter filled with live music in the streets, bars that are always open, and boutique stores lining the different streets. The world-famous Bourbon Street is one of its kind and holds allure for obvious reasons. The pictures capture some evident architectural elements that suggest its roots to French, Spanish, and the Caribbean. Unlike other touristy cities, neighborhood identity is extremely dear to the local people. It’s difficult to imagine a walkable urban settlement, focused mostly on fun, food, and music until you really experience it. The vine-covered balconies with articulated wrought ironwork on walled brick buildings full of photogenic pastel color palette add extra love to the jazz. Thanks to its climate, these balconies stay green all year along with carefully composed landscapes. I must admit, this place is addictive! There is something for everyone here so stop by and try out, you may or may not like it, but I can tell it’s worth an experience once in a lifetime at least.
On a side note, Beignets added a few extra pounds at the end of this trip, but every single bite (40 calories) was worth it.

NEW HAVEN
+ February 04, 2019
The year 2019 began with a tough farewell to beloved Mid-West and an exciting new chapter calling one of the early planned cities of the USA – New Haven home. Deservedly praised, the compelling diagram of a large square divided into nine squares with a tenth square going off at a diagonal is clear and recognizable at a first glance. Just in a month, I am pouring my heart out through these pictures, truly fortunate to be able to surround myself with these masterpieces besides this exciting job I have with Pickard Chilton. From neo-gothic Harkness tower to modernist and poetic mystic of Kahn, there is no hardline exist between the building and the city. There is no distinction between design and redesign. This town is a happy marriage of classical and contemporary that offers well-deserved vibrancy to its rich history and a formidable collection of public art. Honesty and truth are fundamental to these buildings, which one would expect from the greatest like Kahn, Sarrienen, Rudolph, Bunshaft, and Breuer. The majority of the building moves are deliberate, fundamental, inviting, and humanly scaled that do not overwhelm the streetscape. The colors are subdued, the atmosphere is quiet, and the soft light often filtering through the trees adds value to these pictures and make them surreal. It’s the atmosphere I love. If you are an architecture freak (as I am), and interested in exploring graceful and ornamental architecture with its own regional flavor, consider visiting this place and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
SRI LANKA
+ July 27, 2018
While moving through different Bawa designed spaces past few days here in Sri Lanka, I found the potential of various areas which had inherently different atmospheres. The long views merge into the landscape, careful composition of the interior elements, deliberate circulation turns camouflage into beautiful courtyards and cantilever clay tile roofs generate infinite numbers of spatial experiences. The seamless play in the materials with a gradient of light and shade creates a sense of mystery and anticipation. After visiting eight different projects, I found a logical system of longitudinal and transverse axes wrapped around stunning tropical landscape. There is a clear reflection of English landscape movement in Bawa's plan that also tells his unruly temperament and casual approach to life.
NORTH SHORE MINNESOTA
+ June 12, 2018
North Shore is breathtaking! Its astonishing scenery like this creates a yearning to reconnect the nature with its golden earth and turquoise water. Enjoying and embracing this ever changing vistas is what makes this place special. And the sudden appearance of sun in the cold wind reminds that there's no place in the world you'd rather be. It's raw yet everything comes across to make the moment magnetic. Absolutely beautiful past few days around this stunning stretch of Lake Superior.
NEW YORK
+ May 28, 2018
Past few days have been jaw-dropping. To be in this city has always been overwhelming everytime I visit. It was an exhaustive yet extraordinary experience to perceive these lines, scale, intricacy and a giant pixelated landscape. Naturally, lot of pictures and wonderful memories.
What better way to bang summer travel diaries! Many more beautiful days are ahead. Thanks Pratik & Pratiksha for being a great host. I must say our conversation between 42 St and 32 St would be indelible.

Do I need a caption for this? Truly magical evening here at Orlando!
MACHU PICCHU
+ March 17, 2017
If you are around South America, stop at this world wonder and see it with your own eyes. It was amazing to get to the hidden Machu Picchu in the midst of the Andes mountains. Solid 4 hours walking around the mountain up and down the terraces and through the stone-carved buildings. It was interesting to see how Incas built Machu Picchu in the 15th century, by carrying 50ton stones up the steep cliffs and carving them into buildings, temples, baths and terraces. How on earth did they do this? No Idea- it was mind-boggling to try to figure out.
SMALL COMMUNITY, BIG DREAMS!
+ March 17, 2017
Being a part of Studio Andino-'17 at Iowa State, I was involved in the design-built past few days in one of the informal neighborhoods here at Lima, Peru. It feels special when the community engages and puts their contribution to the process of making this social space more vibrant and participatory. Particularly in these informal neighborhoods where multiple barriers work in a complex manner. Really excited to see the outcome of our extensive hard work of five days design-built studio. #studioandino2017
